Understanding Your Body Type Since everyone is unique and different, there is no single body type we all fit into. Instead, stylists can sort us into five different body types based on the composition of our torso: Oval: Has slimmer shoulders, chest and hips, with a wider waist and mid-section. Rectangle: Has an equally proportional waist to their hips, chest and shoulders. Triangle: Has very slim shoulders with a much larger waist—far more accentuated than an Oval body type. Trapezoid: Has wide shoulders and chest, with a slimmer waist and hips. Inverted Triangle: Has very broad shoulders and wide chest, while their waist and hips are very narrow—commonly found among athletes and gym-goers. Relaxed Fit or Modern Fit? Based on these five common body shapes, we are able to choose clothes that flatter our unique body. At GAZMAN, we offer two types of cuts for our clothing, Relaxed Fit and Modern Fit: Relaxed Fit With comfort in mind, our Relaxed Fit clothes offer a fuller cut. This means there is more room in the arms, chest, waist and legs depending on the clothes. Not only are Relaxed Fit clothes superbly comfortable, but they also offer excellent flexibility and breathability. Our range of Relaxed Fit clothes includes: Regular fit shirts Comfort chinos Straight-leg and comfort jeans Comfort shorts Comfort knitwear The body types that suit Relaxed Fit are: Oval Triangle Some Inverted Triangles Modern Fit Akin to a slim fit, our Modern Fit offer a trimmer silhouette by slightly reducing the waist and chest in our tops, while our pants feature less fabric on the seat and thighs to give a slimmer look. While offering a trimmer silhouette compared to our Relaxed Fit range, Modern Fit is equally comfortable for those of us who prefer slim fit clothing. Our range of Modern Fit clothes includes: Tailored shirts Modern chinos Modern shorts Modern jeans Stretch pants Tailored fit jackets The body types that suit Modern Fit are: Rectangle Trapezoid Some Inverted Triangles How to Style Clothes to Flatter Your Body Shape Now that we know our body type and whether we suit Relaxed Fit or Modern Fit clothing, it’s time to style our clothes to flatter our bodies. As a general rule of thumb, we want to use our clothing to create a clean, consistent silhouette and accentuate certain areas to create balance in our appearance. For example, for those of us with a Triangle body shape (which has a wide waist), we want to draw attention upwards to our shoulders to create a balanced look. The opposite is required for the Inverted Triangle body shape, where we may want to add length to our torso to help balance our wide shoulders. Here are some general tips on how to balance your look based on your body type: Using stripes in your outfit: Stripes can be a double-edged sword depending on your body type. Horizontal stripes make your torso appear wider (good for Trapezoids, bad for Ovals), while vertical stripes make your torso appear longer (good for Inverted Triangles, bad for tall Rectangles). Cinch your waist with a belt: Perfect for those of use with wide waists (like Ovals and Triangles), a belt can be used to help tighten your waist to give a narrower appearance. Avoiding tight clothing: Unless you want to show off your hard-earned muscles, wearing looser, flattering clothing that suits your body shape is more often comfortable and stylish. Using colour: It’s a well-known fact that darker colours help slim, while lighter colours help draw attention to certain areas. Use a combination of complementary colours to create a balanced look. Choice of material: Flexible materials such as cotton blends or polyester, like what we use in our t-shirts and polos, are great for all body types. These materials work to create a balanced look while not clinging tight to your body. Shop our wide range of menswear to suit your body type now.
